The Forum Extension has been built with all of the CRM entities necessary to manage forums, threads, and posts. Forum threads have been constructed to support multiple types of discussions, including Questions, Problems, and Discussions. The CRM can be extended to include other thread types to accomodate specific business requirements.
One goal of a having a forum is to create a community of customers and visitors. You want to know what they are thinking about your products and services so you can identify and respond to concerns and questions. Forum posts can be identified as questions or problems and post authors can identify which following posts answer their question or which posts were particularly helpful. Over time, community members will feel comfortable answering each other's posts, providing valuable end-user insight. Once your customers start talking to each other, providing each other with valuable tips and how-tos, you will be able to identify problems and concerns and address those directly.
Forum moderation can be configured to be active or passive; you decide the level of control you want. Forum moderation is assigned at the contact level and multiple contacts can be assigned a moderation role. Forum user profiles can be labeled as moderators so that their posts can be immediately indentified by other forum users. The Forum Extension can be configured to fit whatever forum moderation model you want to implement.
Forum users can subscribe to threads in order to receive alerts when new posts are added. This serves to keep them up-to-date on the conversations that are important to them. As the forum owner, you can keep track of what topics are important any customer by viewing a customer's contact record.
