XML Parser FAQs
Why does the XML parser need to be installed on my system?

The ADXSTUDIO CMS web console makes extensive use of the XML Parser - a Microsoft® component that is packaged and signed by Microsoft. Although ADXSTUDIO CMS will automatically install this component if required, feel free to download and install it from the Microsoft site. Once installed, the web console will not trouble you with any further dialogs or warnings.

Is the XML parser a requirement for all PCs using your system?

No. Only computers that are used to access the web console require the use of the XML parser. There is absolutely no influence on the user's ability to view websites built with ADXSTUDIO CMS technology.

For example, you can easily browse the www.adxstudio.com website with both IE and Netscape® on the PC or Mac platform with no XML parser.  This is because the templates used to generate the website produce clean HTML that does not make use of any special browser plug-ins.

I am operating on XP using IE 6.0. I would not expect to be required to install additional components.
Understood. However Microsoft has chosen to distribute the XML Parser version 4 separately from their Internet browser application, even though they distribute an earlier version with some versions of IE.

We have attempted to simplify the installation process for our customers.  The web console automatically detects if a supported XML parser is already installed, and if it is absent, we politely offer the browser the ability to automatically download and install the signed component.  Once the component is installed, the web console will automatically redirect itself back to the logon page where you can continue with your work.  No reboot is required, and it does not pop up confusing windows that direct you to other sites.  Once the component is installed, you will not have to go through this process again.
Why does the ADXSTUDIO CMS web console need the Microsoft XML Parser?

The web console is not so much a web page as it is a complete web application. The web console's extensible interface platform can deliver any number of web applications using an interface that closely resembles a desktop application.

From a programming standpoint, the web console is a complex DHTML application that works with XML web services on a web server.  The web console requests application data from the web server, which in turn serves it to the remote console as an XML document.  The console receives this information and updates its internal memory with the new content, transforms much of it into HTML, and with DHTML makes appropriate changes to the in-memory representation of the user interface. We believe this approach produces an interface that is generations ahead of the various screen-to-screen application maintenance approaches used in other web products.

Another significant benefit to our customers is that they can easily build their own applications and have them delivered within the ADXSTUDIO CMS web console without any complicated DHTML development.  This is one of the cornerstones of our rapid web development promise.

Why does ADXSTUDIO CMS need version 4 of the XML web parser?
Microsoft has made many bug and security fixes to the web parser and has bundled these into the XML Parser 4 package.  ADXSTUDIO CMS makes use of the enhanced XSLT queries available only in version 4 of the parser.  Additionally, the latest parser is much more efficient, resulting in a faster user interface for the ADXSTUDIO CMS web console.
